We don't eat as much fish in this house as we should, especially oily fish . . . part of the reason for this is it's cost, and another part is that I am not overly fond of strong tasting fish . . . or oily fish. As strange as it may sound, I just am not a lover of "fishy" fish.
I do enjoy a nice piece of salmon once in a while though . . . it's not overly fishy tasting, and . . . when cooked right, it can be downright delicious! I often cooked it when I cooked at the Manor. It was something the Mrs really liked. She was always watching her waistline.
I'm not sure wrapping a healthy fish such as Salmon which is filled with omega fats and all things good for you in bacon is conducive to waist line watching or not. I am only sure that it's mighty tasty . . . kind of like the ultimate in "Surf & Turf!" Bacon makes everything taste better in my opinion, healthy or not!
It helps to keep the fish moist in this instance . . . and adds an extra depth of flavour . . . in addition to the fresh thyme. It's really quite lovely . . . with a squirt of fresh lemon at the end, it went down a real treat. A quick, easy and fairly healthy meal for two, which of course can be easily multiplied. I am thinking it would be even more delicious done on the outdoor grill!

ReplyDeleteLook perfect and delicious Marie, we love salmon here and this look really delicious:)
ReplyDeletehugss dear!
It sounds lovely! Try wrapping it with parma ham, prosciutto or serrano ham. It's lovely! My husband (English) doesn't like eating fish too much so I have to get inventive with him.
ReplyDeleteLol to the bacon, gotta get that fat in there somehow! We had cedar planked salmon on the grill last night, one of my favourite flavours of summer.
ReplyDeleteI love to read recipes from other lands, England being one of them :-) I do want to say, fish should not taste fishy (except perhaps the sardine or anchovy haha) if it's very very fresh. Salmon is wonderful and your recipe sounds very nice.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your site is concerned, I found it very difficult to read with the busy background, it seems a bit like a eye test for color blindness ...I would love to read more of your recipes from the UK...just make it easier...Cheers from Lindy in the USA http://www.lindysez.com
Hi Lindy, you are correct of course fresh fish should NOT taste fishy, and I would never eat fish that was obviously off like that. What I meant by my saying that was I guess I was not fond of strong flavored fishes, like Mackerel and the like. I prefer fish with much milder flavors.
ReplyDeleteAbout the background, if you are coming from a mobile device you need to give the page a bit longer to load. The background for my page is actually plain white, with patterned borders. My settings allow for only white on mobile devices, but because it is very photo oriented it can take a little bit to load. Hope this helps!!
Hey, tried it and it was perfect. Did it becouse my fionce was having hard day at work and I wanted to make a treat for her. She loved it. As a side dish i use green beans and red pepper baked in owen aside salmon, but just for 15min. And oh yes, bread with butter and
ReplyDeleteonion spices. And cheese. I missed only a white wine. And lastly dish baked a bit over 20min, ending with grill mode. Maybe just my bacon was not giving up so easily to becom golden :D
Anyway, very tasty dish! Thanks :)
What a sweetie pie you are. Happy it was enjoyed!
DeleteWhat a clever idea and one I'd not thought of before. We really like salmon and it is readily available at a reasonable price here. I always have bacon in the fridge and so it was ideal. I served mine with boiled potatoes, peas and a light dill and lemon sauce (white wine, shallot, lemon juice, butter, fresh dill), as my husband likes a sauce with fish and potatoes. Very simple to make as the oven does all the work. My kind of recipe :)
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you made and enjoyed this Marie! It really is a nice dish and I love your sides and the sauce you made to go with it. It sounds like the ideal summer supper! Thank you so much! xoxo
