But you really can't beat fish and chips eaten in the salty sea air of the British seaside!Marie Raynerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00407913432222377267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100882347408067241.post-51380490917418178182017-08-10T18:08:29.384+01:002017-08-10T18:08:29.384+01:00Best fish & chips ever for me, from the Magpie...Best fish & chips ever for me, from the Magpie, Whitby.
A very close second, Rembrandts in Easton near Norwich.
And while we're on the subject, the Best Ever Crab can be found at a little crab shack called Cookies at Salthouse on the N. Neither were my peas gloopy, and the chips were quite passable.Marie Raynerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00407913432222377267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100882347408067241.post-51858101553602865892010-05-31T20:37:25.750+01:002010-05-31T20:37:25.750+01:00In reply to Marie's 'Harry ramsdens experi...In reply to Marie's 'Harry ramsdens experience'.
I tried one of his restaurants in Brighton with my husband and son. We were very disappointed and i find it surprising how people can rave over them.
We all had cod (what there was of it), chips and mushy peas. The batter was hard and chewy, the chips were dry and hard as if they had been re-fried and the mushy peas were bland and gloopy. all of it was luke warm.
It was expensive and won't be going into another of his restaurants or recommending.
Harry Ramsden has put his name to so called 'quality' fish and chips. The chefs need a few lessons i feel. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100882347408067241.post-9024330717418115282009-06-23T15:49:16.436+01:002009-06-23T15:49:16.436+01:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Harry Harveyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18415170301090769630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100882347408067241.post-27162984143702770882009-06-01T19:22:00.604+01:002009-06-01T19:22:00.604+01:00In Aldeburgh, Suffolk, there is great fish and chi...In Aldeburgh, Suffolk, there is great fish and chips! But they have the skin on the cod and I agree it is much nicer without. The Eastbourne fish and chips look delicous :)Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12585405037759180474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100882347408067241.post-75832993181502095952009-06-01T19:21:51.877+01:002009-06-01T19:21:51.877+01:00Oh this looks sooooooo good!!! Eugh, the thought!

Now a couple of years back I would have said the world's best F & C were from Grimsby and Cleethorpes. In second place was Whitby. THEN we went to Great Yarmouth (Norfolk coast). There's a place there - I couldn't tell you where it is - but their fish was the most divine thing ever. The chips weren't bad either and the batter soooo light and crispy. Tchsk, stop it Ang, you're on a diet!

The most consistently horrid F & C comes, I reckon, from Birmingham (sorry Brummies!). I don't think they've realised fish actuslly swim about in the sea because theirs is always thickly battered triangular lumps, a bit like those Bird's Eye things. Eye protection should be provided with each portion because the batter is so hard it'll have your eye out if you're not careful how you cut it! Now I love Jasper Carrott as well as the next but for goodness sake it's no wonder he's so thin! And you know what that scar is on his face don't you? It's where a bit of batter sheered off. Before that he was a big fat feller. True.

I love this blog Marie and I think you will soon build up a huge following. Specially like the 'in season' part.

But don't forget the 'followers' list so I can put me on it!!!

love, best wishes and good luck,
Angie, xxAngiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10015569343069499036noreply@blogger.com
