WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE CROISSANT CHERRY PIES
I almost always have the ingredients in my cupboard and refrigerator to make these. A few simple ingredients, put together in the most delicious way!
- 1 can refrigerated Croissant/Crescent Roll dough
- 1 tin (21-oz/410-g) cherry pie filling
- 1/2 cup (65g) icing sugar, sifted
- drop almond extract
- 1 TBS milk
The most common brand of refrigerated Croissant/Crescent Roll dough available here in North America is the Pillsbury brand, although in some places, you can get a no-name brand or a store brand. All will work well!
In the U.K., use the JusRol refrigerated Croissant dough.
The North American one will give you 8 pies, and the U.K. one will give you six. Both are delicious and more than acceptable!
You don't have to use cherry pie filling. You can actually use any kind of pie filling you have on hand or that you enjoy.
I used almond extract with cherry pie filling as the flavors of almond and cherry work very well together. If you are making apple ones or another flavor, you may want to just use vanilla extract.
HOW TO MAKE CROISSANT CHERRY PIES
This is such a simple recipe to make. You really can't go wrong. If you are worried about the pie/fruit filling sticking to your muffin tin, just grease the tin really well.
- Preheat the oven to 375*F190*C/ gas mark 5. Spray a 6-cup or 8-cup muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- Open the croissant dough and separate into triangles.
- Place one triangle into each cup.
- Fill with Cherry Pie filling, then fold the ends over top to cover.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, until golden brown.
- Let sit in the pan for a few minutes before lifting out to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk together the icing sugar, almond extract and just enough milk to make a drizzle icing.
- Drizzle the icing over the cooled pies. Leave to set, then serve, with or without ice cream.
DID YOU KNOW?
You can make this quick and easy dessert with any kind of pie/fruit filling that you want to use or that you love. I have tried it through the years with many different flavors. Peach is very nice, as are apple and blueberry. The sky is really the limit here when you are planning your dessert. I am a great believer in using what you have and having what you use!
